Sorrento is situated along the northern meridian of the Gulf of Naples, on the tufo rocks, the pulsing centre of the Peninsula, from which it derives its name. It is also known as the Land of the Sirens and divides the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno.

Many are the monuments and churches which embelish Sorrento. Amongst these masterpieces is the 14th century Cloister of Saint Francis, with its Arabic architectural influences, where concerts of the Sorrento Festival and international exhibitions are held.
Museo Correale di Terranova:where you can visit the archeological section which contains the ancient remains found in the Sorrentine Peninsula necropolis. The pictorial section exhibits paintings from the school in Posillipo. The porcelain section exhibits precious Oriental porcelain from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Museo Bottega della Tarsia Lignea: Exhibited in an 18th century palace in the heart of the historical centre contains the collection donated to the museum of furniture, objects and paintings belonged ' to architect A. Fiorentino running from 1700 to the present day.One can also admire paintings and designs recognisably of the Sorrentine Peninsula. A rich collection of photographs from the end of the 18th Century by Rive, Brogi and Alinari, is also on display.
