Sorrento

Patronage of Torquato Tasso (11 March 1544, Sorrento – 25 April 1595, Rome), who was one of the major Italian poets of the 16th century, today the urban Greek-Roman structure is still conserved and visible in the historical centre, between Piazza Tasso and Via San Cesareo and the adjoining streets.  In this manner many archeological sites that one finds scattered throughout the city, like the Ancient Walls one finds near the Porta di Parsano, or the remains of the Roman era Villa Pollio Romano Felice at the head of the Sorrento Peninsula, can be appreciated.


Many are the monuments and churches which embelish Sorrento. Amongst these masterpieces is the 14th century Cloister of Saint Francis, with its Arabic architectural influences, where concerts of the Sorrento Festival and international exhibitions are held.

Leaving you seduced by the beauty of its landscapes, by its hidden bays, by its crystal-clear sea, by the gentleness of its climate, abandoning oneself to the delights of the palate – the typical products from its land:  tomatoes, mozzarella, provolone del monaco, olive oil, fish – all prepared  following age-old traditions.

Live the Sorrentine nightlife, with its numerous bars and restaurants; dedicate some time to shopping in the many boutiques with well-known brands available, or in the artisan shops such as those which still produce the inlaid woodwork which Sorrento is famous for, or the coral or ceramic shops.
